The WRAP AmeriCorps Program (Windham-Raymond AmeriCorps Program) exists to engage K-12th grade alternative learners in active, hands-on and relevant service learning programming. Our AmeriCorps members, who partner with RSU-14 teachers and administrators receive professional development in curriculum design and service-learning program implementation. Our members will serve in one of six different schools within the RSU-14 School district which is located in Windham, Maine, a surburb of Portland and a town of 18,000 residents. With support from partnering teachers and supervisors, AmeriCorps Members work with small groups of alternative learners in implementing service learning projects that are of high interest, that utilize design thinking, and apply an interdisciplinary approach to learning. Students become engaged problem solvers as they work to address real world problems brought to them by community partners seeking support in addressing such issues. Students get the opportunity to interface with professionals from a variety of agencies and non-profits as they work to achieve the goals outlined in each unique service learning project.
This AmeriCorps position is ideal for member candidates who are passionate about alternative learning, community-based organizing, and the collaborative process in education. We seek members who are flexible in their thinking, passionate about improving educational outcomes, and ones who are collaborative in nature and relentlessly positive role models for youth.
